“The Hameau de Peney is less a gesture of densification than an act of continuity, where public space becomes a mediator between heritage, landscape, and the village community.”

Located in the heart of the vineyards in Peney, this project aims to requalify and enhance the site’s buildable potential while respecting its village identity. Based on a careful analysis of the built and landscape context, it proposes a considered densification, scaled to the place and in continuity with the existing rural structures. The separation of volumes recreates a village rhythm and extends the historic built fabric, while the building layouts draw inspiration from the surrounding vineyard patterns. At the center of the project, a main square orchestrates the development: bordered by housing and activated by a ground-floor small-holding within the Grange, it becomes a meeting space for residents, echoing traditional hamlets.
The architecture integrates itself carefully into the landscape and protected area through pitched roofs, controlled volumes and ridge lines adapted to views and orientations. Characteristic elements of rural heritage — gable walls, external staircases and overhanging eaves — are reinterpreted in a contemporary language. Materials such as rendered façades, stone podiums and wooden framing engage in dialogue with the atmosphere of Geneva’s traditional barns. More than a simple densification project, the intervention expresses a will for continuity, where public space becomes the link between heritage, landscape and community life.
